Living in Shanghai, besides social and payment software on my phone, there are two apps that are absolute “helpers” I can’t live without when encountering specific life scenarios.
App)
If you want to take a high-speed train to Suzhou, Hangzhou, or Nanjing for a weekend trip, this is the official app you must download.
Its app experience is extremely smooth. You can register directly with your passport, select seats on your phone, order takeout (you can order KFC delivered to your seat on the train), and even swipe your phone to enter the station. For those who like to escape Shanghai for the weekend to relax nearby, it is the key to exploring the Yangtze River Delta.
(Qing wen, zhe tang che zai na ge jian piao kou?)
“Excuse me, which ticket gate is this train at?”
(Ele.me / Meituan “Buy Medicine” Channel)
Suddenly having a fever or stomachache late at night, being alone in Shanghai is the most helpless feeling. The “Buy Medicine” channel in these two takeout apps is simply a late-night lifesaver.
Unlike going to a street pharmacy, you don’t need to go out. Just open it on your phone, and nearby 24-hour pharmacies can usually deliver medicine to your doorstep within 30 minutes. If you don’t know how to describe it in Chinese, you can send the medicine name or picture to the online pharmacist. This is an emergency channel I always keep in reserve in Shanghai.
(Qing wen, pei song xu yao duo jiu?)
“Excuse me, how long does the delivery take?”
